When should I see a counsellor?
A counsellor can provide a safe space to explore your thoughts, moods and behaviours. Counselling can be beneficial in a variety of situations. You might consider seeking professional help if you experience any of the following: Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, major life changes, relationship issues, trauma, substance abuse, grief or just want unbiased support.
Are you covered by insurance?
Counselling is covered by the majority of insurance providers. However, we encourage you to inquire with your provider as every policy is different and we cannot guarantee coverage. Most insurance companies will not allow counsellors to direct bill. Please reach out to your counsellor for direct questions about insurance coverage.
Is what I share in session confidential?
Everything that is shared with the counsellor is confidential and kept in a secure location, with the exception of:
Information shared that indicates yourself, or others, are in imminent danger.
When legal requirements demand that confidential material be revealed, in which case the client would be notified prior to the release of information.
When a child, youth or vulnerable adult is in need of protective intervention.
What can I expect in my first session?
Most importantly, counselling is a safe environment to unload, talk and feel with no judgement. Your comfort and trust in us is paramount.
During your first session, you will complete an intake form with your therapist that outlines your presenting concerns and goals for therapy. Subsequent sessions will discuss these concerns in detail and you will discover and implement strategies to work towards your goals.
The number of sessions required to reach your goals vary depending on your presenting concerns. Sessions are voluntary and you can begin, terminate or reschedule sessions at any point, as long as you give 24 hours notice.
